We All Have An Opportunity To Be Kind

Perhaps I talk about kindness on here more than some people - I feel it is not an effort or behavior to practice, but rather something that happens when people genuinely care for one another.

As small business owners, so many of us have an opportunity to be kind to the many people we come in contact with, listen, perhaps be a friendly ear or shoulder to lean on. I noticed this first in my retail store, serving the public for 19 years, making incredible friends in that little shop; sharing stories, often just listening. People always said it felt easy and comfortable to talk to me, something I took as a compliment, but the truth is I loved hearing about their world and family, whatever they were going through. Sometimes people would really appreciate having that chance to share what was on their mind or heart; many times we'd end up deep in conversation or needing to reach for the tissue box, and that is where I learned kindness isn't something you do, it is how you are.
