The Importance of A Real Social Media Manager

Double-dipping into the talents of valuable team members is a common practice in today's workplace. One of the areas where this becomes highly problematic is in regards to social media management roles, where instead of designating a specific individual for such tasks, a company may farm out responsibilities onto multiple people, as if assigning chores; "Okay, Al can take the Twitter account, Julie can manage Instagram, and hey, Tom wouldn't mind keeping an eye on the Facebook page, would he?"

When this occurs, employees are expected not to just take on additional responsibilities, but in essence, become the voice of the company. These shifts may lead to problems such as:

• failure to establish a trustworthy and professional brand message,
• employees who inadvertently weaken or sabotage company perception,
• lack of a consistent voice representing the organization

Bottom line for better practices: recognize the need for your brand to be professionally represented. Hire qualified candidates or outsource to ensure a professional representation of your brand, and avoid overloading your existing team members. It's a win for everyone!
