Putting the fun back in seasonal shopping, one alternative & quirky holiday at a time! 😃 We love this idea, brought to life by a bookstore owner who felt the need to provide an antidote to Cyber Monday.
Cider Monday is a tradition which began in New England in 2013, as a festive option celebrating Independent retailers. Observed on the Monday following Thanksgiving, it was a light-hearted holiday meant to invite shoppers to locally-owned businesses to enjoy cheer and cider, rather than spending time on the internet. The idea was created by Willard Williams, the founder of Toadstool Bookshops, as a way to encourage people to step away from their computers and celebrate their community. In recent years, the American Independent Business Alliance (#AMIBA), has championed such efforts, and now co-promotes the holiday on their website and social media channels as well. The goal is to encourage enjoyment of one's independently owned and operated businesses, putting the focus back on spending nearby and with actual mom and pop, brick-and-mortar, establishments. This not only makes for more enjoyable shopping, but also furthers an economically stable model.
Whether you fancy a cup of steaming cider, or apple spice donuts, participating in an off the wall type of promotion can be a terrific way for your holiday festivities to get noticed. Check out the links below to learn more and see how to bring a little seasonal magic into your store this December.
