Why Hand-Written Notes Still Matter

September 1st is World Letter Writing Day, not to be confused with the National Day on Writing, which is observed October 20th. Although you may think the old-time art of putting a pen to paper has gone by the wayside, there are still some excellent reasons to utilize this form of communication in business.

A letter or handwritten note conveys an air of appreciation, which I think it's safe to say, cannot be expressed in quite the same manner via email. Taking the time to show special attention demonstrates the sender cares enough to make an extra effort, and receiving such correspondence will most likely, stand out in the recipient's mind.

This type of communication is a thoughtful way to stay in touch after closing a sale, or when following up on a business transaction. While many of us have gotten away from the art of letter-writing, using hand-written notes in business is not only acceptable, it's memorable. After all, when was the last time you received a lovely message or card thanking you for your patronage or support? In today's noisy, technology-driven world, I think such a form of contact is a wonderful way to stand out.

Sincerely,
Andrea Baumann
