How to Participate in National "Get To Know Your Customer" Day

Did you know National "Get To Know Your Customers Day" takes place four times a year? It's observed annually on the third Thursday of each quarter (January, April, July, October), creating a perfect occasion to reach out to your patrons and get to know them better.

Remember when Main Street businesses were locally owned and operated? The owners knew you by name and knew your shopping habits. They typically knew what you wanted to buy, and if they didn’t have it, they were willing to get it in for you. With the advent of the Internet and big box stores, much of the personal attention has gone by the wayside. Get to Know Your Customers Day is a day to turn that around. Make it a point to get to know a little more about your customers and make each of them feel like they are your most important customer of the day. Source

Do average consumers feel valued or appreciated? According to this article American listed the following as reasons for dissatisfaction:

• Difficult-to-understand accents from offshore call centers (17%)
• Long wait and hold times (16%)
• Being transferred around and having to repeat the problem over and over (15%)
• Never-ending automated self-service menus (12%)
• Being forced to speak to robots (8%)

How can you participate in this occasion? Here are some suggestions for ways to observe the dates and connect with your visitors:

• Create mini gift bags with small items such as microfiber cloths, decals, key rings or magnets
• Hold a special raffle or offer a drawing
• Offer a unique sale or discount that day
• Provide a tray of snacks, candy or nuts
• Send out thank you notes
• Use the hashtag #GetToKnowYourCustomersDay on social media

I hope you found some useful suggestions here and are inspired to celebrate the next "Get To Know Your Customer Day" with your guests. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week!
