Leadership

I caught a glimpse of this post online yesterday, accompanied by powerful words from Leadership First: "Great leaders aren’t know-it-alls who continuously try to outshine everyone. Instead, they admit when they’re wrong and genuinely want to learn from others."

THAT'S IT. This speaks volumes about the attributes needed to be a good leader - being humble; receptive to learning; able to see themselves as ordinary people too - and I wondered, how many of us truly embrace such principles. Doesn't this make you want to be someone who guides their team, and yet stays real enough to continue to grow and learn? Virtually anyone can assume the title of "leader", become voted in or appointed, but how many of us are actually suited to the task of inspiring and leading others forward? While I'm of the mindset that anyone can learn, grow, and develop personal qualities, when it comes to leadership I'm not so sure that can be taught. Maybe it's one of those things that is born inside of us; the courage, grace and charisma with which an ordinary individual lifts other to extraordinary places.
