Surviving Social Distancing | Observations and Helpful Tools You Can Use Today

Tough times mean we come together, right? Reach out to your neighbors, friends, business owners and first responders, because we don't know yet the impact our global crisis will have. One thing I am experiencing a large amount of concern over is the potential for increasing issues with mental health and/or depression due to a sliding state of mind as the days and weeks drag on.

I've included a few article links here (out of the more than fifty I've read during the last few weeks), ones which I feel offer a message of hope along with useful suggestions to follow. Regardless of how you choose to care for yourself and others during this time, please DO make the effort to notice you are feeling, each and every day, because remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. YOUR health matters.

How to Stay Connected with Friends While Social Distancing | Fear is valid and it’s okay to talk about it. But it’s really an amazing act of solidarity.” Community doesn’t disappear despite isolation. We won’t disappear. In the face of fear, we can pick up the phone and call our friends. We can take silly Snapchats, have virtual movie marathons, and talk about how we’re feeling. 3/19/20 Medium

It turns out that approximately one-third of those 65 and older may have never used the internet and may not have internet access at home; among those who do use the internet, almost half need someone's help when it comes to setting up or using a new device. And substantial differences in the adoption of technology adoption exist based on factors such as income and educational level." 3/18/20 Forbes

"It’s Time to Gather Around the (Virtual) Dinner Table" These days, as we all know, even if you can decide on one restaurant, you’re not going to go out to that restaurant, open the door, walk in and sit down at a table together, with a room full of other people who are doing the same thing. Social distancing has also distanced us from our favorite restaurants, favorite dishes and favorite servers. 3/23/20 Coastal Point

Ways to Be a Good Neighbor During Covid-19 "This pandemic is also making us all isolated (literally and emotionally). So while many of us want to help by doing something, it can also be hard to know exactly what to do when we’re stuck inside away from other humans. Turns out, there are many ways to help each other even when we’re at least six feet apart." 3/20/20 The Bold Italic

Ways to Stay Connected While Social Distancing That Will Keep You From Going Insane "Apart from coronavirus, or maybe COVID-19, no other word or phrase has entered our lexicon faster than social distancing. The concept is currently being practiced worldwide as countries try to stop the spread of a pandemic that’s expected to get much worse before it gets better. As a large portion of the U.S. population transitions to working from home for the foreseeable future, it’s important to stay connected to friends and loved ones who are not quarantined with you." 3/14/20 Distractify
